Tales From The Chair - June

Your monthly round up of everything I’ve been discussing and discovering straight from the salon chair . . .

LATELY

LATELY 〰️

This month’s highlights have been early finishes and slow river walks home (sometimes accompanied by a cheeky rose pitstop) evening strolls around Bushy Park at golden hour, a magical wedding in rural Mallorca and a couple of days spent exploring the old winding streets of Palma.

JUNE'S FAVES TO SAVE 〰️

BEAUTY

Skin Food Nourishing Cleansing Balm, 75ml, £12.95, Weleda

LOVE! Brilliant cleansing balm, efficiently removes make-up including mascara and leaves skin feeling clean and comfortable.

Skin Food Ultra Light Dry Oil, 100ml, £15.95, Weleda

ADORE! Perfect for quick, fuss free, body moisturising in Summer, simply spritz into palms and apply to damp skin fesh from the shower, instantly absorbs leaving no residue so you can get dressed immediately. Leaves skin super soft and smells lovely!

PSSSST … I’m soon going to be working with Weleda so you’ll be able to discover more about the brand and purchase products directly through me! Stay tuned to find out more or drop me a line with any queries.

Daily Milkfoliant, 13g, £18, Dermalogica at Sephora

In the Summer months I prefer a more gentle exfoliant and this one is just the ticket. With acids present in the form of AHA’S and BHA’s I’d still exercise caution against sun sensitivity (so remember to always wear your SPF) but this is very gentle and great for sensitive skins.

50+ SPF Suncream, Water Resistant, Fragrance Free, 200ml, £19, Childs Farm

A happy accidental dicovery, I used this on a recent trip to Mallorca and it protected my fair, sun burn prone skin really well! Great texture, easily absorbed and no white marks. Octocrylene free, particularly good for sensitive skins, those prone to eczema and of course children!

FOOD & DRINK

Fuji Mountain Coffee Capsules x10, £3.50, Ueshima at Waitrose

Randomly decided to give these Japanese pods a try and they're actually pretty nice!

Espresso Martini, 125ml, £3.99, MOTH at Waitrose

A surprisingly decent espresso martini in canned form, simply chill, shake and pour!

Mixed Olive Sourdough, £3.35, Gails at Waitrose

A new addiction and it’s all Anita Cheeta’s fault! Makes a deliciously simple Summer lunch accompanied with ripe tomatoes, olive oil and a sprinkle of salt and pepper!

Oat Barista Unsweetened Milk, £2, Moma at Waitrose

I’m happy to drink cow’s milk but if I want an extra creamy coffee/hot choc/chai latte then this is always my go to - froths like a dream and tastes really good!

STYLE

Quilted Balloon Bag, Finca Green, £39.50, Maison M

A super stylish cosmetics/wash bag or could be used as an over sized clutch.

Rachel Bracelet, £47, Hey Harper

Hey Harper is a Lisbon based jewellery brand, crafting pieces from highly durable stainless steel then coating with a 10x stronger process than the usual gold plating. PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) makes the jewellery completely waterproof so every item comes with a lifetime colour warranty against fading and tarnishing. As a hairdresser my hands are constantly in water so I’ll be putting this bangle to the ultimate test!

Animal Pull On Shorts £49 and Short Sleeve Blouse £59, Alba Ray

I took this sweet little co-ord to Mallorca and it was so cool and comfortable! I’ve previously ordered a dress from this brand and really like the quality and customer service! Worth a look if they’re not already on your radar!

Black Textured Swimsuit, £16, George at Asda

The comfiest most flattering swimsuit at an absolute steal! A rare online purchase that triumphed (and my friend thought it was Hunza G - winning!)

RECENTLY WATCHED

〰️

RECENTLY WATCHED 〰️

Another month, another Mescal movie. God’s Creatures is a psychological drama set within a small fishing village in Ireland. When Brian returns home after years away in Australia, his Mother Aileen is only too pleased to have him back, but things quickly take a turn when he’s accused of sexual assault against one of her co-workers. The somber tone and gloomy cinematography add to the general unease as you witness Aileen gradually dare to consider that her perfect boy is perhaps not who she thinks he is, sending her moral compass spinning and culminating in an emotional and dramatic ending.

Andrea was telling me about an upcoming visit to a restaurant in Norway, 5 and a half meters beneath sea level. Under looks like a very unique dining experience!

Marie recommended H Mart Asian supermarket in New Malden for an interesting selection of Korean, Thai, Japanese, Chinese and Malaysian ingredients from sauces and oils to fresh fruit, vegetables, seafood, dumplings, noodles and snacks.
