Tales From The Chair - October

Your monthly round up of everything I’ve been discussing and discovering straight from the salon chair . . .

Local Mentions:

Joining the long list of coffee shop neighbours in Richmond Upon Thames, Hove favourite Dharma have opened their first London shop while over in Teddington, Parsnips have opened next door to Cafe Benedict serving up treats-to-go from their take-out hatch.

Travel Tales:

Earlier this month we made a trip up to Edinburgh. You can check out this post combining all of my favourite finds here.

Skincare Faves:

I’m completely obsessed with Medik8’s new Press & Clear (£34) a 2% salicylic acid tonic that you sweep over skin on a cotton pad after cleansing - it claims to give you clearer looking skin in just 7 days and I would agree this to be true! The salicylic acid is encapsulated which means it drip feeds the ingredients on a time release system so that the skin doesn’t become over sensitised or dried out. It’s anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and gently exfoliates so perfect for improving the appearance of blemishes, oiliness, blackheads, pores and un-even skin tone (including post blemish imperfections)

I like to alternate nights between Press & Clear and Press & Glow (£28) which I have previously raved about, their PHA exfoliating tonic.

Press & Clear uses salicylic acid which penetrates deep down into the pores while Press & Glow uses Poly Hydroxy Acids to very gently exfoliate the surface layer of skin. Both are available to purchase as refills.

Beauty Bits :

It launched a while back but I’m only just getting around to trying out Hourglass Unlocked Instant Extensions Mascara (£29) for the first time and it’s working really well for me! I’m quite particular about mascara brushes and well aware that it’s all about personal preference - I like a thin wand that doesn’t overload the lashes with product. This mascara distributes easily and helps to hold the lift from my lash curler very well. It’s a tubing mascara which means it can be removed easily with just warm water at the end of the day.

Style Spy :

A few things that have caught my eye this month

9ct gold Handmade Ianthe star blue sapphire ring, £825, Liberty

Ganni City boots, £195 (currently on sale £139) Flannels

Oversize quilted coat, £59.99 (currently on sale £49.99) Mango

Lately . . . in London:

Lore Of The Land

I love this Fitzrovia pub and they do a great Sunday roast!

Caia

Wine bar, music venue and open fire restaurant on Golbourne Road in Notting Hill. I wouldn’t rush back for the food but the downstairs music space was cosy and fun.

Flour & Grape

Pasta and wine in bustling Bermondsey, the carbonara didn’t disappoint!

Lately . . . in the North East:

Riley’s Fish Shop

Fishmonger, deli and eatery, a total gem!

Yathai

Delicious Thai curries, stir fries and noodles to take away and enjoy at home (20% off first order)
