Edinburgh Faves

Some recent highlights from a trip over the border . . .

EAT:

Noto

47a Thistle Street, Edinburgh, EH2 1DY

Delicious small plates, wine and cocktails. Loved this place! Some of the best food I’ve eaten in ages. Be sure to order their legendary North sea, buttery crab, with sourdough bread for dipping, it’s divine!

Konj Cafe

67 Home Street, Edinburgh, EH3 9JP

This teeny, 6 seater, Persian cafe was recommended to us by a barman on our final night in the city and we made it for lunch the next day. Owner Faranak was charming and welcoming and cooks all the food herself in a tiny kitchen out back. Stay tuned to the website for Supper Club dates and a Persian Bazarre coming soon.

DRINK:

Devil’s Advocate

9, Advocate’s Close, Edinburgh, EH1 1ND

When in town, we always pay a visit to this cosy bar, tucked down a cobbled alley, housed in an old Victorian pump house. With and extensive whiskey list of over 300 expressions from around the world, it’s a great place to explore with a cocktail, flight or ‘wee dram’

Spry

1 Haddington Place, Edinburgh, EH7 4AE

Neighbourhood wine bar, bottle shop and bakery. I really liked it here! Such a cool, minimal space, laid back vibe and lovely, chatty guys working behind the bar.

The Bon Vivant

55 Thistle Street, Edinburgh, EH2 1DY

We’ve only ever come here for drinks, a super cosy, candlelit pub with an old world feel.

The Spence

Gleneagles Townhouse Hotel, 39 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh, EH2 2AD

Set within the Gleneagles Townhouse in an opulent and ornate space, The Spence is a great place to sip cocktails and people watch.

Fortitude

3c York Place, Edinburgh, EH1 3EB

Speciality coffee, roasted and served in the Scottish Capital. Various locations, we visited York Place, nice and handy for the Portrait Gallery and the barista was so welcoming and friendly.

DO:

Scottish National Portrait Gallery

Had a little solo wander around the galleries here, the building itself is beautiful in it’s own right, a grand neo-gothic landmark, don’t forget to look up in the main hall to a ceiling full of stars representing the night sky of the Northern hemisphere.
